KENYA – Suspension of SGS and CCIC inspection companies

Good day,

Please, take note immediately of suspension put on SGS and CCIC inspection companies with regards to carrying out pre-shipment inspections for Kenya.

Please, read below paragraph 4.3 of the press release (Joint Press Statement by Hon. Peter Munya, Mgh, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives and Mr. Henry Rotich, Egh Cabinet Secretary, the National Treasury and Planning on the Inspection of all imports destined to Kenya on 3rd October 2018):

4.3     Strict Monitoring of PVoC Agents

PVoC agents contracted by KEBS have been given a responsibility of ensuring that only goods which meet the requirements of Standards are issued with a CoC lekarna-slovenija.com. In the past agents have issued CoC for goods that did not meet the requirements of the standards contrary to the contractual agreements.

The Government has been reviewing the performance of these companies that fail to perform their duties as required in their contracts. In this regard therefore, we wish to announce that as a result of the ongoing review and in the face of significant non-performance, the Government has suspended the activities of the following companies in the zones as indicated below:

  1. China Certification and Inspections Group Company Limited (CCIC) – Zone 2 (China Mainland)
  2. SGS – Zone 4 (Far East – covering the following countries Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam)

Importers are therefore advised to use the services of other contractors operating in the zones affected by the suspension. These suspensions take effect immediately and have been instituted to enable the affected companies put in place corrective measures. The suspensions shall be upheld until those measures agreed with Government are in place.

The performance monitoring for all PVoC agents is an ongoing process and further actions will be announced based on the results.”
